Description | : | A time lapse movie of part of a fully grown polyp colony. A colony consists of many gastrozoids (feeding polyps) as well as gonozoids (medusa-formaing polyps) , which are more mumerous when the colony is well fed. Food (artemia larvae ) are taken by tentacle-bearing polyps (ex. top left at 0.0~0.5 sec) and digested (up to 5 sec). The digested nutrition are distributed to other part of polyp colonies (not visible with this film) including medusa-forming gonozoid polyps (ex. center bottom). The polyp “spits” the leftover of the digested artemia at 6 sec. Another highlight of this film it is how baby jellyfish is formed. The gonozoid at the center-bottom of the frame has one small medusa bud at the bottom of gonozoid which moves toward the tip of gonozoid then released. Meanwhile the second medusae bud is formed at the very bottom of the same gonozoid, which follows the first medusa bud. |
